Aug. 11, 2011 - PRLog -- The 2011 Women In Green Forum, scheduled for August 30-31 in Santa Monica, CA, has just announced that Alexandra Cousteau will be honored with a Care2 Impact Award during the highly anticipated Keynote Luncheon. The Care2 Impact Award recognizes an individual who has made an outstanding impact in sustainability, human rights, animal welfare, women's rights, and other issues that make the world a better place.
"Alexandra Cousteau has been a lifelong advocate for the environment," said Randy Paynter, Care2 Founder and CEO. "We're honored to present Ms. Cousteau with the Care2 Environmental Impact Award for her advocacy on environmental issues and her efforts to educate mainstream global audiences on issues affecting our oceans and other waterways."
As a respected environmental leader Alexandra Cousteau builds upon the legacy of her renowned grandfather Jacques-Yves Cousteau. In 2008, she founded Blue Legacy, a Washington, D.C.− based nonprofit dedicated to exploring how humans relate to our water-based planet. Through projects like the recent “Expedition Blue Planet: North America”, a 17,100 mile journey across North America, Ms. Cousteau combines traditional film and social media to engage global audiences online − showing how individuals and communities contribute to an interdependent global water system, and how they can work together to protect it. Among other accolades, Ms. Cousteau has been honored as an “Earth Trustee” by the UN and regularly delivers testimony on critical policy issues before the U.S. Congress.
In addition to the award presentation, the 2011 Women In Green Forum will feature a dynamic lineup of panels and keynote presentations, with speakers representing Richard Branson’s Carbon War Room, the Clinton Climate Initiative, Intel, and Tetra Pak. The Forum will also feature clean technology exhibits and an exclusive Ride and Drive, where attendees will have the opportunity to test drive emerging clean vehicles including the Chevy Volt.
“We are thrilled to be able to honor Alexandra Cousteau at the 2nd Annual Women In Green Forum,” said Jaime Nack, President of Three Squares Inc., an environmental consulting firm responsible for developing the Forum. “The Forum’s mission is to celebrate environmental trailblazers like Ms. Cousteau and create a community of such leaders to inspire future generations toward environmental career paths.”
